With regards the final drive gear, the would any of you nice people know the tolerances between the shaft and the seal sleeve? and what's to stop it from leaking as its just a sleeve?

Hi Brian,

Are you referring to the output shaft seal (041267)? That seals against the output gear spacer (041391) - not the shaft itself (041273 or 044075).

As for the seal between the mainshaft and the sleeve gear bushes: there isn't one. Gearbox oil will seep past here - especially if the bike is left on the side stand.

The shaft and the spacer, I have 0.039 inch (or 0.10mm) difference between the shaft and the spacer. I'm replacing the seal, I was just concerned that the 0.094" may also be a place for a leak. and I cant understand why the they wouldn't have sealed it from the case to the shaft.

No No No - 0.039" does not equal 0.1mm it equals one whole mm.
And Megga - where does that 0.094" come from?
Now Clanger - if you were to press that little button on your verynear marked inch/mm then your readings would be in the same format as these bikes were made and not that Micky Mouse system (mm) that's now fashionable outside of the USA ;)
