Hi there,
My name is Thomas. I live in the Netherlands
Since 4 years I own a 59 G2.
I've been doing quite some work On the Matchless last years, it is road legal and riding now.
This forum has been really helpful! I was reading as a guest a lot.
I've got a question about the seat.
(Mine is missing and I did put a cheap china seat on it for the time being)
Does the later seat fit on the earlier models? Or does it need modifications?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Re: Newbie & seat question
I believe the very early fuel tanks were smaller than the later so therefore the seats would be longer

Thanks Martin!
I used the search function On the forum and found out the front mount on the seat is different too.
There's no way to find an early G2 seat.
So I have to make up my mind.
I guess I will end up mounting a “later†seat and having a gap between the seat and tank.

Thomas , are you still a guest or full member of the club ? - you only show as a guest on the forum
You will find that members are very helpful to everyone including guests , but members are more likely to offer rare parts
just a suggestion and not a criticism
either way , I hope you enjoy you bike as much as we all do

Re: Newbie & seat question
I was faced with this problem, what I did was saw a standard seat in half and insert an extension piece, just pop riveted it in place and reinforced the two seams with glass fibre resin.
A new front bracket was fabricated and pop riveted in place.
Sent the base to Leightons and they did a superb job covering it.
