I dont know to much about electrics but this seems to be a common conversion.

The cub's French military so never had a battery as it was originally energy transfer. So if it fails, it fails.

I don't think Dixi has a power box but probably has just the ignition box.
It was Dave who mentioned the Power Box and maybe he meant the Ignition box?
If I'm correct the Boyer Power Box is a rectifier, regulator and energy storage unit and so can supplement or preplace the battery

This is correct Martin it can and does replace the battery. I think Dixie is referring to the ignition box which is completely different.
