Help ! Gearbox rebuild required on Matchless G2

Post by awilliams »

Dear all,

I would be grateful if someone could advise/recommend a company or engineer who could re-build my 1960 Matchless G2 AMC gearbox in North Wales or the West Midlands, as I was recently let down badly by SRM engineering in Aberystwyth.

Any advice or leads would be most welcome

With thanks

The G2 is a reasonably easy gearbox to strip and gave very little trouble unless it ran low on oil, which was very easy to do as the gears are high in the casing. I am not sure of the spares situation, it might be easier and cheaper to pick up another gearbox, no doubt someone out there will have one gathering dust

As PTO says the cost of rebuilding far outweighs the cost of buying a spare one. I paid almost £300 to have mine done....and I supplied the bits!
Try Tony at AMC Spares, he`s brilliant.
What ever you do don`t use Foleys m/c`s in Fenton, Stoke on Trent.

Unfortunately missed the gear box on ebay however I could do with recomendation as to who could do a rebuild as I have all the parts apart from sleeve gear which I had to buy second hand SRM engineers were a bit doubtfull about its condition but it was the only one I could source. It was in better condition than the original. I am new to internet and still a learner and a novice restorer as you may have guessed. I would be grateful for any advice on where to go from here.
