Frame number what year?

Post by ianz900 »

Hi Guys just brought a G2 or that's what the engine says! The guy I brought it from had no docs so do not know what the reg is but do know the frame number is 16808.The engine number says it is 61 G2 S. I am trying to find out what the original reg was? Also I have no yoke for the front forks with it so am on the look out for a yoke or any info on what forks could also fit the bike as the ones I have are pretty rough!

you have no chance of finding the reg from the frame number.

however

is how you find out what it is and perhaps who it was supplied to and when.

Evening all. I have a just got hold of 1957 AJS Model 30 in bits. Should the frame number be in the same place as my 1943 G3L?
Cheers

Frame number what year?

To John Grew.
Look on the r/h side of the bike at the end of the tube running under the tank below the saddle for 57 frame number.
IANZ90, whats the rest of the engine number 61/G2S was discontinued in 62 BUT, the frame number is from after September 1st 1963, making it a 1964 model year frame, by which time the only 250 was the G2CSR. Looks like engine and frame are from different years and models, the bike will be dated on the frame year. The CSR would have had the heavyweight forks & all the bits that fitted on them like wheel and mudguard, if you are looking for yokes for the lighter type forks refered to as Bantam forks, you will of course need the wheel/ guard etc. to suit those forks.

Engine number is 57/30 04780. I have all the bits but intend to build as a CSR look-a-like
