hi to all
having recently purchased a matchless G2 250 1961 at least thats what i think it is, it was addvertised as a 250 matchless, my question is ,, on the right hand handel bar there is what looks like a choke lever now while brousing round a well known selling and bying site i came accross what looks like my choke listed as a ignition advance/retard lever now first which is it and second how to operate it corectly that is my queery thanks for any help you can give i can almost feel the eyes rolling back and looking sky ward as i type

Hi,
It's an air lever - for cold starts, push the lever all the way forward (viewpoint sitting on bike). Pull the lever all the way back towards you after the bike starts and for normal running.
I suggest you get a copy of the owner's manual - it's available here:

Enjoy the G2 - I have a G5 (350cc version) which is fun though it sometimes tries my patience!

Indeed I am, licensed 28 years next month, active on most bands using a proper Morse key too! Restoring radios is much easier than mollycoddling Lightweights!

many moons ago; fascinating hobby !
Ref. the choke lever, beware former owners having fitted an advace / retard lever in replacement, when the starting position is then reversed (I have seen this )!!
