G2 oil filter

Post by theroof »

Hi,I have 2 exploded views of the G2 engine and the oil filter is different on each one. One shows filter 042061 with 062,063,064,065 and 058 the other shows filter 042845 with 065, which is the correct filter for my 1961 G2 engine # 8120. Thanks,Ray.

This is my opinion and I could be right or wrong, both the filters will do the job, the item No 042845 is an early filter with steel mesh outer and gauze inner, this item is not available with JS. the other items you listed are the oil filter components with mesh on the inside for a Lightweight engine, all these item are available from JS
Hope that makes sense

G2 oil filter

I recall that the early felt/mesh filters were one piece , but these were soon replaced with a slightly shorter one with a spring loaded end cap that allowed oil to bypass it if blocked i.e. dirty , or the oil pump over delivered ( ho ho) . Be sure to use the cap and spring or oil will simply flow around it - i don't have a parts list for the csr's or 350's - the cam followers got an extra feed and longer oil pump - this filter might be similar to the older longer style ( ? )Edited by - T on 15 Oct 2011 07:17:09 AM
