* note - CSR's also have a different oil punp plunger , it has a slightly longer stroke / increased oil rate . This is because extra oiling holes were added to the cam chest to lubricate the followers . I don't have both types to hand but i believe the only difference is the eccentric groove where the retaining pin goes , which MUST be in good condition , NO FLAT SPOTS !( both types fit - there can be a danger of the flat not matching the drilled feed hole . * under oiling is less of a risk nowadays , modern oils do help here !)Edited by - T on 07 Apr 2012 4:03:12 PMEdited by - T on 07 Apr 2012 5:10:15 PM

The other difference is of course The Price.
You'll pay a lot more for a genuine CSR
And there will be plenty of people happy to try to sell you a bodge job pretending to be a CSR
Personally, if performance is important, I'd buy a bigger bike. And if its not I'd buy the standard version and maybe a James with the change

You will pay a lot more for any CSR in the range of AMC. THE LW CSR is no exception. There are some nice ones around, I am sure many a crankcase has made it in to many a different frame over the years, but that happened as much in 1966 as it does now, a good sporting 250 and a good looking bike. See attached, I think this was the ED's old bike, it used to have indicators in those days.
