Model 14 frame question
I've just been given a model 14 frame by an old farmer When I got it home I noticed that under the headstock - at the top of the front downtube - was a lug. Looks to be threaded with a 26tpi thread. I've never seen this before, and it doesn't look homemade. Anybody know what this lug is for?
Many thanks, bb.

Model 14 frame question
I think it is for the steering damper mounting?

Model 14 frame question
the only lug mine has is behing the downtube and holds the tank mount. Dont think its threaded but I guess the bolt vibrating about for a few years could create its own impression.

Model 14 frame question
the lug is definately cast into the front downtube, and not welded on. the threaded seems a bit small to hold a steering damper. i tried putting a couple of pics on yesterday, but couldn't access the site. i'll upload them now under 'model 14 frame lug' 1 & 2. frame number is 12***

Pics there now, looks to me like the lock stops and as said above the threaded hole is for a 1/4" bolt to anchor the friction plate of the steering damper.

Model 14 frame question
surely if this was for the friction damper the hole would go right through? this one doesn't and the lug, complete with lockstops is definately cast into the front downtube, so it's a factory job.

The actual damper goes through the fork crown. The hole in the frame is for one of the damper mountings. The other would be on the bottom fork yoke.

Model 14 frame question
the crankcases that came with the frame were stamped 14s, if that would make a difference, being the scrambler?
