how do these compare to workshop manuals for the lightweights? BMS has photo-copies for sale at £5.80.are they worth buying,or should i just look out for a w/shop manual at an auto-jumble?

Instrution book tells you about the bike controls, how to ride and mantain. Workshop manual tells you how to dismantle/assemble the machine to carry out repairs.

You don't have to wait for an autojumble you can get them to order on line. But as above ^^^^^ Workshop manual will help service and repair. Instruction books generally tell you where and how and what to check over for instance.

I don't want to do BMS out of business but the owner's and workshop manuals are available online from Christian's superb archives.

The FIRST place anyone should go who needs info on their Matchless or AJS (of course the second should be here, after joining the club!!!). Christian Gyde has done a fantastic job collecting massive amounts of information - and it's FREE.

His site has been mentioned frequently in the Forum btw.
