hi, when I removed the head I found a small 'o'ring had been used to seal the rocker oil way hole has anyone else done this as it doe's not appear in the parts list.

I haven't. There are no recesses in the flat surfaces of either the barrel or cylinder head and diameter of the hole in the gasket isn't big enough to fit round an o-ring and it definitely shouldn't be pushed inside the hole. Surely it would prevent the head gasket lying flat between the two parts?

I think that's the only place my engine wasn't leaking form and I've taken it apart. :(

Hi

There's no reason not to do this provided:

The O ring is sized to match the thickness of the head gasket plus compression.

The head gasket hole at this point is corrected for the OD of O ring used.

The O ring is of a material capable of withstanding the heat.

Or it could just be re-built as per design without the additional seal, I'd opt for this.

Regards Mick

Further to my previous post, I've just unearthed another barrel and this one does have a very slight recess round the hole.

No o ring on a 350 that is why it isn't in the parts list
