Hi

Could also be fuel starvation - check the strainer at the carb inlet for debris clogging it.

I was assuming that the engine was running fine because of him taliking about loss of drive, which to me starts outside the engine.

hi, well it runs and revs without problem on the stand, but your suggestions I will follow up,starts easy, but at least I won't be on my knees in front of the clutch for a while :-).

At 15 minutes intervals? I doubt it, but I suppose it's a (remote) possibility.
Is there any untoward mechanical noise or jerking/snatching when the drive is lost or recommences?

I've no real idea, but I would advise to only change one thing at a time and start with the cheapest / simplest to do and keep a careful note of what any setting / adjustments were before you make thyem.

Things like this can be a proper nuisance.

hi, so went back to basics and checked the fuel system and found that the fuel tap filter had come off, it was a new tap, lot of rusty particles in pipe and banjo filter, going to clean the tank and carb and try again to find out if this was the problem (hope so) more news anon.
yes i new there was some rust in the tank but thought it would be ok until tank refurb time, wrong again.

Re: keep calm, maybe not clutch issues update

hi, just another update, folloowing on from previous suggestion ibought a tank cleaning/sealer kit, tank now pristine inside, pipes and carb clean.started and the bike runs ok in all gears on the stand,...........
but on the road still this odd (hard to explain) "jerky" drive but only in second, this is what was happening before but I didn't go to 3rd or 4th.surely this must be something in the gearbox.is there any gearbox knowledgable person out there who agrees before I take it out.

It's possible you've a broken tooth on the 2nd gear set but before going any further wouldn't it be worth seeing if it happens in 3rd and 4th as well ?
(Or have I misunderstood you?)

Go on, take your gearbox apart and take a look. How hard could it be? ;)
