From what I can make out from the workshop manual it should be 043186... can't find out what 041322 is though?? also look at the PDF, this is an exploded view of a 1959 (early) Matchless G2(same as an AJS model 14) engine

What Paul said.

If you have mainshaft 041263 or 041701, you need spider 043186
If you have mainshaft 043058 or 041703, you need spider 043509

You can get both spiders from the spares scheme here: http://www.amoc-parts.com

This is what the different shafts look like (well, three of them anyway...):

[edit: the only Lightweight shaft missing from the above photo is the early 350 one (041701). This one has a long threaded part (like 041703) and a stepped shaft (like 041263). This is the part I have not got. You can see it in Martin's post below.]

Thank you for all the information, photographs, drawings and links everybody has posted it has helped me immensely i have uploaded a photo of the mainshaft poking out of my gearbox , the gearbox number is M1784 ,it is a stepped spline and the thread length is approximately .6455" it points to being a 0401701 shaft which requires a 043186 spider i shall order it in the morning ,once again thanks for all your help.

Interesting as my original gearbox number which is now a spare box is M1783 How weird is that!! It leaked big time from the main output seal and has a bad 3rd gear whine. The bike came with a spare box in bits so I rebuilt that instead and just swapped them over. I have yet to strip the original box to investigate, another thing on my ever increasing to do list.. Do you know when your bike was first registered? Mine was in Glasgow on the 1st April 1960 and the original registration was AGA 839 which the previous owner now has on a Truimph Thruxton

Paul i have had quick look through the V5, it was first registered 26/04/1960 it has had ten previous owners ,from its reg number LLF 908 i think it was north west london
Were it was first registered.

Martin.

PS
I wonder has he or maybe she got any spares kicking around in their shed maybe tracking previous owners could be a new way of finding spares.

hi all, building up my clutch now, unfortunately parts 0433338, 040356 not available through club spares anyone have a nut they could spare, also do you grease the roller cage or does the oil lubricate it.

040356 Clutch spring stud nut
043338 Clutch spring stud

The nuts are the same as a Norton Atlas - so you should be able to get these e.g.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NORTON-LIGHTW ... 1434044392

Not sure about the studs, though. These appear to be specific to the G5, so probably not many in circulation...
If you are totally stuck, I'd try the Norton studs, they might be close enough:
