Gearbox Bush removal

Post by Martin.S »

I cleaned up the bearing surface of the kickstart shaft in my lathe and now have to make a new bush to suit.
I put the outer cover in the oven(she's out!) and heated it to 175degC and tried to shock it out but no go - Any ideas?

Hi

It may have been installed with Loctite in which case you may need to heat the bush with a torch to break the bond.

If it's really stuck I'd thread the bush bore and pull it out using a suitable piece of tube or a socket and some studding.

Thanks for that Mick, Happens I had a fine 1" tap (I can never walk past a skip!), screwed that in , held that in the vice, put a blow torch on the casting and gently taped the casting off the bush. Job done.
