Re: MOT day
If it fails the MoT does that mean it is illegal to ride it on the road even though it does not need an MoT?

Re: MOT day
That's a thought but I feel quietly confident that I have checked everything over on the motorcycle but if that happens I suppose all that can be done is take it away and get it sorted

I think you can ride home if a fail is given unless they put a government ruling on it like they used to do on HGV I think it used to be called a g7 but if I am wrong no doubt someone will reply with the correct answer

Re: MOT day
BTW - Whilst riding without an MOT (if applicable) is illegal it doesn't necessarily invalidate your insurance. However, in the event of an accident, (whether or not an MOT is needed or even if a current MOT is held), an insurance company could inspect a vehicle and if there was a fault that contributed to the accident (an offence in itself) they could wriggle over a settlement.Mick D wrote:Yep - Can't even ride it homedodger wrote:If it fails the MoT does that mean it is illegal to ride it on the road even though it does not need an MoT?
(After a big crash on my Matchless, MOT'd only 2 weeks before the crash, my ins. co. sent an examiner who told me that his job was to find contributory faults to save the ins. co. some money. He didn't )

Re: MOT day
Surely you know if your bike is safe? You can download the MOT requirements and test it yourself.

From the DVLA website:dodger wrote:If it fails the MoT does that mean it is illegal to ride it on the road even though it does not need an MoT?
https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot/after-the-test
Driving a vehicle that's failed
You can take your vehicle away if:
your current MOT certificate is still valid
no ‘dangerous' problems were listed in the MOT
Otherwise, you'll need to get it repaired before you can drive.
If you can take your vehicle away, it must still meet the minimum standards of roadworthiness at all times.
You can be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle that has failed its MOT because of a ‘dangerous' problem.
