Oil leaking from.......?

You can see if it's present from the outside - look past the gearbox to the front sprocket, the disc should be visible on the inner chain case:

At least you'll know whether its there or not.

Yes, great idea and there is definitely a circular plate there but as to the felt washer.....who knows!!

Took the inspection cap off and although the chain isn't touching oil, jabbing a screwdriver in shows that there's still quite a bit in there.

Maybe just need to monitor how the level changes from here on
