Teledraulic fork 1 1/8 or 1 1/4

Post by rudelan_LAPSED »

Hello,

My 1955 G3ls is equipped with a teledraulic fork but I do not know if this is 1 1/8 or 1 1/4. How to measure?
There is a problem, I do not tighten the top of the fork and the supports move. :(

Try a vernier caliper....then convert the millimeters to inches

Hi

I guess you're asking because the leg is assembled and you do not have direct access to the stanchion outside diameter, (where you could transfer the dimension with callipers / offer up a 30mm open ended spanner, (if it won't go the stanchion is 1 1/4")).

In which case the stanchion top internal thread dimension will tell you. My 1 1/4" stanchions internal diameter at the top thread is approximately 1", (25.4mm), I'm pretty sure 1 1/8" stanchions will have a smaller internal diameter.

Regards Mick

1 1/4" then. You seem to be missing the rubber buffers under your headlamp ears. They look loose.

I had the same look on a 1958 bike while on the centre stand. The main springs didn't reach the underside of the bottom fork yolk. The problem turned out to be missing buffer springs!

the headlamp looks 1955 ish. are you taking the engine number to be the age of the bike by anychance. The diameter of the fork tube will either be 29 mm or 32 mm(im converting this specially for you). not much difference if you are measuring with a ruler.
Now irrelevant now the original post has been altered from 53 to 55

still irrelevant when you change date of subject matter, but i have a spare set of fork springs if you need them. its a wonder how things work when they are put together with such a mish mash of non origional parts

My G3ls is 1955 frame A312XX, I paid the 10 pounds for dating: 1955. The engine corresponds. (See my first post)
