G3L - Rear wheel bearing and brake

Post by Mauromncs »

Hi All,

the guy which sold me the basket project, also tried to restore the rear wheel and I guess he did a terrible work, because from other internet pictures seem not correct, i guess i need to dismalted the complete bearings and replace with the correct one? I'm not sure about the parts which are needed, is there any scheme of the rear bearing assembling?

and the brake plate it's welded badly with a spacer which should not?

thanks a lot for any comment.

Have a great day.

Mauro, you need to get hold of the “Maintenance and Instruction Manual” for your year and model which has exploded diagrams of both axles.
You will also need “spare parts list” for year and model Which will give you the part number you need to order replacement parts.

Hi Mauro.
Looking at your earlier posts I see that the engine is dated 1941 (41/G3). I'm not an expert on War Dep't machines but I believe that all G3's supplied under military contracts throughout WW2 were dated 1941.
Your bike was registered as 1947 so my guess is that it was brought into civilian use in 1947. In which case the manuals for a 1941 bike are appropriate.
Look at the link given below and under 'Books' you will find Workshop manuals, Owners manuals and Spare parts lists for all years.

In particular there is the Army User Manual:

and:

and also an engine Army Inspection Standards manual that was issued in 1953 but the mechanical details will be right for your bike:
