seat for 1957 16 MS anomaly

Post by TRFell »

the correct seat (centres 350mm front to rear seat mount) does not fit the 1957 bike l have, l wondered if the rear frame has been changed at some point the bolt holes are approx 365mm, any suggestions regarding finding the correct seat.
The oil tank also has different mountings to the usual 1957 type this one has its rear mounting shared with the seat bolt and the tank has a cover over it with two screws?
Could anyone shed any light?

Hi

It sounds like you have a rear frame and oil tank from a duplex model - check out the spares lists from 1960 on.

R K Leighton can supply a seat to suit:

Sounds like you have a twin oil tank, singles don't have the heat shield. 1957 is also one of those years where things were changed for that year only that AMC were so fond of.

Be glad it's not a 1956 seat. Good luck.

1957 spares list shows different front and rear frame numbers for the 350 and 500, the same with the twin seat different numbers, I have read somewhere, that the factory modified some 1956 jampot rear frame to accept girling suspension, and these frames were used for the 350, the front frame number for the 350 is the same as in 1956.
