Some PO of my machine has fitted an anti-wet-sumping tap.
I decided to upgrade it to one with a switch, to disable starting unless the tap was open ..
no problem so far ..
First drain the oil tank
To have some control on the oil running out, I disconnected the pipe from the bottom of the tap, put a funnel and can and opened the tap .. just a few drips then Nada ...
Check the oil in the tank, overfull as I expected ..
still no oil with the cap off so obviously no vacuum in the tank ..
so, for no other reason than what else can I do, I checked the pipes against the handbook ..
It appears that the feed pipe is the inner of the two and the return is the outer .. the tap is in the outer pipe .. (the return)
but i've had no sumping problems .. perhaps the pump is exceptionally good?
continue checking ..
inner pipe (feed) appears to go to the upper (return) connection on the engine, and the outer (return) pipe goes to the lower(feed) connection on the engine ..
So the engine has been drawing its oil from the overfull top of the tank .. I knew it was overfull and had plans to drain to the correct level .. (lucky or what?)
Or am I reading/seeing something wrong ..
has anyone fitted an anti-sumping tap .. which pipe from the tank is it in?

I would fit the pipes the correct way and leave out the tap. Don't forget to bring it onto compression with the kickstart. See what happens. If it wet sumps fit the tap on te feed pipe. If not, great.

thanks .. difficult to leave out the tap as pipe has been cut to accommodate it .. I really need confirmation of the run of each pipe.dave16mct wrote:I would fit the pipes the correct way and leave out the tap. Don't forget to bring it onto compression with the kickstart. OK the rear pipe on the oiltank (feed) goes to the lower union on the crankcase. The front pipe on the oiltank (return) goes to the upper union on the crankcase. Leave the tap turned on and see what happens.
