Update : stripped one jampot down today and replaced the seal, bush,o ring and fibre and leather washers and new oil etc. and a good clean and fettle,,good news is they came apart easy peasy so nice job which means obviously they have been overhauled in the not too distant past so not sure how long they will hold oil for . main strut shaft slightly weathered and inner casing has a few scores but now feel at least like they are performing , so will do other side and see how i get on for a bit before i spend big dosh on some modern inserts. cheers folks.

rebuilt the other jampot finally and have to say that bike feels lovely , best 30 quid I've spent so far. also it turns out my bike is a 1956 march built machine so its dvla who have put it as a jan 57 bike maybe during the removal of the cherished plate .
