Hi
The dynamo part number will be stamped into the case and you can then trace it through the Lucas documentation here:

That end cap looks like a slightly later type as fitted to BSAs

That's true! I assumed, probably incorrectly, that it originated from my late fathers Matchless tool kit. He had a 1946 G3L so maybe relevant to that model if it did.

Epilogue.
Just the final to my problem as solved by Clive, Mick D et al.
As advised, managed to remove sprocket with aid of puller and puffing. The dynamo is an E3N - LI with number 20038B stamped thereon. A quick look in the archives as recommended revealed details of the unit.
So, happy days and thank you for helping with this issue,
Kindest regards,
Stephen

The Dynamo sprocket was the same in 1946 and that is what your tool does not fit. I think he may have accumulated tools from elsewhere too.G3L1946 wrote:That's true! Hi guys,
Yes, my father had a few models and collected quite a few tools on the way. He was also in the R.E.M.E. in the 1940/1950's and worked on all manner of vehicles including the military Matchless.
Thank for all you help,
Stephen
