crankshaft endfloat
Cannot give you a definitive reply but on the earlier machines you need a fair bit of endfloat to stop it all seizing up when hot. I have run many thousands of miles with much more clearance than you describe with it all held in place by the engine shock absorber spring. is there any equivalent on the alternator model? Where would you fit the shim? I am not sure they would last long unless you put then behind the main bearing. The endfloat will change as you get wear on the washers between the two main bearings anyway. At least mine always seem to be worn at rebuild time. Hope that helps rather than confuses. Clive
