'54 gearbox mounting position?

Post by cfaber »

Hi,

Would someone mind pointing me to the documentation on correctly mounting the gerbox with tensioner?

Thanks!
Fix it until it's broken!

Otherwise how will
anything get done?

Not quite sure what you want to know. Do you want to know how to fit the g/box into the frame? A quick search in the various bits of documentation hasn't brought up any fitting instructions but no doubt they are somewhere to be found.
If it's of any help here's is a rough and ready pic of the components assembled of the B52 gearbox/primary chain adjuster on my very rough and not very ready '54 single.

Thanks! The picture is great. Could you snap a shot of the top and other side as well?

Are those adjusting nuts the new heath and safety approved ones with rounded edges?

 Titter ye not, Alan. It's called patina. I've never done shiny but have done 26,000 miles on my 350 in 5 years and never been let down...........ever, including a 2 month 3,200 mile tenting tour in France, Andorra and Spain and several club camps in Europe (overcoming the Alps, Pyrenees, dodgy moules, St Emilion, Kentish rivet counters...) with all camping gear, including a day's 410 mile run coming back from the Milan IJR. Now get back to your Solvol, duster and poncey nuts

Colin. I can't photo the other side as it's obscured behind the primary chaincase, but if it of any use here's a bare frame showing the positions of the 'box mounting plates....

and with B52 'box in a bare frame....

and this is the most/closest I can get 'above' the g/box as the oil tank and frame are in the way............

This is a later AMC gearbox but it's fitted into a '54 frame using the Burman fixings.

Thanks guys, so is the mounting bolt for the adjuster carrier just a stud through the frame?

Do you happen to know the name or part number of the cover plate fixing bolt and nut? I spent today digging through the parts list determining all the things I need across the board and couldn't find that anywhere =)

Hi

Original parts listed in the 54 spares list, available in the archive:

Though I suspect Pharisee has fitted alternative(s)
