Does anybody know why or when the oil feeds to the base of the cylinder were discontinued.
AND
Has anybody used a later Cylinder (ie without oilways) with an earlier type piston, on an earlier model, successfully - ie without the piston seizing up!!
I read somewhere that it was decided that the Oil splash from below was sufficient but now need to be sure.

OIL Feed to Cylinder Base - G80/S
The cylinder feed was discontinued for the 1956 season. I have seen it print somewhere that the oil feed may be blocked off on any age of engine. The bigend must throw off a veritable shower of oil!

Thankyou Alan,
I will be blocking off the oil jet and be happy to rely upon the oil splash itself - other sources have reported the same, some by actual experience - All very encouraging, NOW, I can get on with it!!
