Can you tell me what the torque settings for the main shaft and big and nuts on a 19 56 18 s please

Hi Robby, the book says 190 ft lbs for the big ends; Phil Irving says use a 2ft tommy bar and real strength! but he is talking about a 400 ft lb figure. For the main shaft, assuming you are referring to the nut holding the shaft in the flywheel, F W Neill gives no figure but says 'press the shaft firmly home and tap the pinion end of the shaft with a soft mallet to drive it home on its taper to prevent it moving when the nut is tightened. As a taper is used, do not use undue force in tightening the nut.' There's precise settings for you. You must ensure the timing side shaft is properly located or the timing will be out - see Neill's book. Hope this helps, Andy

Thanks for the information Andy. It is a 1956 engine with press fit timing side shaft.. not tapered, are you saying the nuts holding the main sheriffs in should Be tightened to 190 , the same as the big end nuts I never gave the timing a thought, just made sure the oil hole was lined up
