Unleash The Beast

Hello everyone. I thought it was about time I introduced you to my project. Her name is Alice and she's a lot of a bitsa. The frame is an 18s Girling circa 1957. I originally bought her in 1984 and have previously built her in touring and trials trim. I split the crank pin on my honeymoon in 1993 and then spent the last twenty odd years sulking in the corner of various garages of houses we have lived in up and down the country. The donor engine is a 56 G80 which is currently having the barrel re-sleeved at Weir's in Blackburn. The gearbox is a GB26 which has always been with it since I got her.

Alterations include the rather obvious TDR250 front end. Nothing like original but it will certainly stop with that disc brake. The keen eyed amongst you may notice that the seat appears a little different. My trials tank (originally fibreglass but now being superseded by a steel one from a lovely chap in India) wouldn't let the dual seat fasten in its right position so I moved it back 3". This created further problems as it sat too low and the sides rested on the oil tank and tool box. I cut the sides down then re-fixed the vinyl.

The tins are all ready to go on this week and are finished in Ford Midnight Blue, which I sprayed myself using aerosols and acrylic lacquer.

I hope you like it, or at least find it interesting and I will be putting up more pics as the work progresses. Please feel free to comment.

Happy riding, Chris

Can't wait to see it, looks very interesting. If you come on our runs you're definately at the back (with that brake!)
Dave.

The whole girling (replica) units are available with bottom clevis fitted. I note the club spares scheme currently lists this as limited stock, phone before ordering.

I emailed them a while back about some buying a pair of 'Jampots' but they only do those on an exchange basis and I don't have any to exchange :(
They never mentioned anything about Girlings... Do the Girling units have a clevis at the top as well?
