My name is Ed. I'm from Dublin in Ireland.
Ive recently bought a complete rolling chassis of what I believe is a Matchless G80. Its rigid/tele and its frame number is 2393.

Welcome to the club. It would be a good idea to get your rolling chassis dated, if you intend to build up on it. A picture may also be needed. The number could be early post war. But could be mistaken for a 350 WD, as the same number would have also been used, prior to re starting numbers again post war.

If the frame is post war it will most likely be an early 1946 one, unfortunately I believe that there are gaps in factory records that were salvaged for this period.
If you have not already found it a trip to Christians Archives can be a very productive use of any spare time: http://archives.jampot.dk/
The Roy Bacon "Matchless & AJS Restoration" book can be a reference source too.

2393 sounds more like the engine number , my 46 G80 has a number 1362 but frame number 65**
I can see that there is a 1946 G3L with engine no 2232 frame 52**
as Duncan say difficult to know exactly , im looking at 1979 members list

There are 2 sets of post war numbers. One for std. road models another for comp. machines. Comp frame and engine numbers having a C. So you must state if the frame number also has a C. when requesting Date of manufacture. I believe, mid 1954 road model frame numbers were restated again with an A prefix.
