Hello,
I'm doing an engine rebuild on my heavyweight single and was wondering what is acceptable wear for the tappet and guides? Not on the surface of the tappets but side to side play between them?
Any thoughts?

It would seem to be 5 to 7 thou clearance. Have a look at page 9 of the Army Inspection Standards manual in the link below. It's for the WD 350 but as far as tappets and guides and other bits are concerned, equally relevant to your 500. Your Profile says you have a 1943 G3L but you have posted this question in the 500 H/W section. ......
