G80 Major 1964-66 Engine rebuild.

Post by jockydee »

Hi guys help needed PLEASE, I have been very fortunate to find someone (very capable) to rebuild my engine. However i'm not sure (if needed) where I might get the following parts:

1. Standard size piston with standard compression. + rings pin & circlips.
2. Crankpin cage & rollers.
3. Conrod.

Just the factory part numbers may be a good start, any help will be most appreciated.

The piston and complete big end assembly can be obtained from club spares.

Not sure where you'll find a conn rod - it will no doubt have to be s/h

You should see factory part numbers in your bikes parts list, perhaps this one. http://archives.jampot.dk/book/Spares_l ... _twins.pdf
You will need to refer to a later update supplement that refers to parts that differ from 1964.

I don't believe 900594 CRANKPIN ASSY fits the 1964-on h/w engines? However, the big end assembly is available from Alpha Bearing, code AMC20.

As for connecting rod, there is a genuine WHT one for sale on eBay. Please verify length. The 1964- on engines used the 1956 type s/s connecting rod, p/n 022397.

New rods are also made by Carillo apparently. Maybe Don Madden will chime in with the order code?

A thread elsewhere says that unfortunately Don Madden is recovering after an accident, so I'm not sure he will be available in the near future.

Thanks for the heads up, Malcolm. Maybe someone else has this information, i.e., which Carillo order code is applicable?

Thanks,

Knut

(My initial reply amended - twisted knickers syndrome).
You could ask Carrillo. After all it's a good place to start:?

G80 Major is covered in http://archives.jampot.dk/book/Spares_l ... G12CSR.pdf spares list. I take it you have tried the usual suspects if Club Spares can't help. I would talk to Les at Russell Motors, about what crank pin will fit etc, he'll know and highly likely be able to sell you one.
He is only there Tues, Weds, Thurs and Saturdays, can sometimes be hard to get hold of on the phone, so persevere.
