It looks like I have started an interesting topic here. Thanks for your comments.
I have fiddled-in the screw from the top now with my butcher-fingers, using a device to hold it. Tightened it with spanner and Nyloc nut from underneath.

I also thought about welding a nut on the upper bracket and getting the screw in from the bottom. The cage-nut is a good idea as well. Maybe for the next restauration. Now it's in ;)

My bolt went in from the top, so that's how I put it back. However once it got tricky I used a longer bolt, ground a point on the end and ground off the first couple of threads to make the nut easier to start. A combination spanner went on the bolt from the top and a socket from underneath with the nut in the socket to start it.
