To be truthful, Clive, I didn't know that the crankshaft was supposed(?) to be a sliding fit into the bearings. It was my first time assembling the bottom end of a heavyweight. I didn't measure the relative diameters but from the ease at which the bearings dropped over the axle when they were warm, I don't think that there was a great deal of interference. I'm sure it will come apart again without too much difficulty should the need arise.
