And so it died...
... My Model 18S that is.
I was driving out to a shop, to get my rearmudguard welded, and it suddenly felt like I had to go on reserve, it had been a while since I had tanked up, so I turn on the reserve and everything felt normal.
300 meters more, and it died, I had let go of the throttle, and it went out.
We checked the plug a few times (second change today. Venturi carb, massive rain for 8 hours outdoors.) and nothing appeared after we had clean the black carbon of it.
It was dry, the plug.
So I disassembled the carburettor, found some missing gaskets, a binding slide, and small stuff.
Sanded a bit of the slide (Not with sandpaper, the stuff thats used on metal), which took the worst binding.
Blew out the jets, and had the whole floatbowl and need assembly cleaned. But to no avail.
I did though manage to get it started before we took the carburettor apart, and it was just like sucking air in, but not was ignited, lack of fuel?
What I have yet to test.
Fuel directly into the chamber, via plughole.
Check spark (Just to try)

Pouring fuel through the plug hole won't work!.
Did you check to see if the fuel lines to the carb were clear and was tehre fuel in the float chamber?
Oh well, I've a trio of dead ones, maybe we could have a group funeral....
Cheers

I did think of that, just couldn't figure out an easy way to check it with the time given.

Disconnect the fuel lines and open the fuel taps to see if there is fuel flow.
I don't know the carb but I asume it has a tickler and if you depress this the carb should flood, if it does not then suspect the float needle which may just be blocked.
Google is a good place to search for basic info.

I have disconnected the fuel lines to check for fuel, and it was a good stream.
And I have clean the float needle, all jets have been cleaned with a compressor

Old fuel? try some fresh stuff!!
If it has been raining for 8 hours, (wots rain?)...it must be pretty damp where you are? ..maybe maggy or lead is shorting out?

If the plug is dry then no fuel is getting to it.
If the fuel supply to the carb is fine and no jets on the carb are blocked and the slide and needle are working properly then it is between the carb and the cylinder where you have a problem.
Maybe a cat is stuck in the in the inlet port?.
The only thing I can think of to stop fuel getting into the cylinder is that either the inlet valve is not opening or you are not getting enough vacuum (suck) in the cylinder on the inlet stroke.
So you now have to suspect, broken cam lobe, broken pushrod, broken rocker or even exhaust valve stuck open.
If none of these then either your piston is holed or it is not going up and down.
I reckon that about covers it.
I suppose yoiu have checked if there is any fuel in the tank?.....

I've had it started up today, but it is going rather erractic at the ignition, I think.
It pulls fine when I am trying to run it.
I now think I'm having a magneto problem.
