frame dating

Post by Chris Berry »

Hi I am trying to establish the year of manufacture of my G80 frame. Some have told me that it is 1949 whereas others suggest it was built in the 1950's. The frame number under the saddle is 26121. Can anyone help?

Thanks Clive I did try but my number does not show up on their records. I'm wondering if perhaps my bike is in Australia

No Its just one of those that we don't have a record but 26212 is more likely to be 1948

Thanks Roy. At least that's something. (26121) might be on a register over here somewhere

Sight of the frame should confirm it as Roy has stated. Numbers were restarted post war, there would have been a WD Matchless frame of the same number.
