1952 18s tank

Post by eagle56 »

I'm in the process of re painting my tank.

the tank has rubber knee pads and chrome on black AJS screw on badges on both sides.
Is this correct or should it have AJS in gold.

1952 18s tank

Post by Steve Martin »

Hi Steve. 'Bacon' has this to say:

" The first post-war models just had tank transfers and this practice continued on AJS machines till 1950. For 1951 all AJS models had an oval badge but both marques changed for 1952. AJS changed to a badge with its letters on a bar......There were new plastic badges for 1954... "

So, for your '52, it should be badges, not transfers. From what you describe, I wonder if you have the oval badges. If so, don't be too concerned that they are technically '51. There are many legitimate reasons why they could still be original; so if they are still in acceptable condition I suggest you keep them.

Cheers, Steve.
