Think my message got lost

Is there a seal between dynamo body and chaincase?
I've fitted a proper dynamo now to my bike and trying to work out how the locating strip which screws on the the side of the dynamo is supposed to work, is it supposed to abut the engine plates?
Thanks

Hi Gordon. As a guest member your first few posts will be moderated so they will not appear immediately.

The locating strip sits between the two engine plates and stops the dynamo moving over too far when the chain tension is adjusted. It is difficult sliding it in with the strip in place so many are removed. The trick is to slacken off the retaining band much further than you think is necessary and then slide it through the cutout at the top of the engine plate hole. No seal was fitted by the factory between dynamo and chaincase and I have never fitted one, but I am happy with the occasional few oil drips. If you are going to fit one you will have to work out your own method.
