John, Easy Peasy. Follow this link to Christian's Archives:
http://archives.jampot.dk/technical/Tra ... umbers.pdf
Locate the associated models, and use the Archives to look up the spares lists, which will disclose the ratios.

The differences between the GB26 and GB27 are all "external": folding kickstart on the GB27, different gear pedals and a deflector plate between gearbox shell and chain sprocket on the GB27. Otherwise they are identical, same gear ratios, gears, shell, etc.

According to Roy Bacon, AJS & Matchless - The Post War Models, Frame No 8550 was the first number for year starting 9/58 for the G80CS.. so I think that gives you month and year...

Cjay59, I don't understand the "9/58", is it september 1958 ? with a chassis number C8551, it would be the second of the year ?
I'm going to have a look for that book.
Unfortunately the data factory for 1959 has disappeared, i can't have info from that point

It's a bit of a bible, for some reason, and others will probably be able to explain why, but yours would be called a "59" even though it was most likely, because of the frame number being only one past the starting number for the year, have been built in/sent out in September 1958, I've included a scan of the page and a picture from the book of a G80CS 1961...for some reason each year started in September....

Re: Matchless G80CS 1959
This is strange... but why not. So it means that they put an engine with a 59 inscription on a bike sold in 1958 ?
I will definitely bought this book .
Thank you for the scans, his there the same infos for the engines in the book ?
