CS petrol tank front fixings

Post by Pharisee »

The mountings at the front of my CS tank need replacing as the studs are turning in the rubber bushes. First off, I'm not sure that what I've got is completely correct. Looking at the '56 parts list, it seems that I need 2 bolts (021175), 2 rubbers (021174), 2 washers (021453) and two nuts (016845). No mention of any other rubber washers or pads for the CS. On my tank, the rubber bushes that are fitted inside the mounting tubes finish flush with the bottom of the tube, so that the bottom of the tube would be in contact with the frame mounting. To avoid metal to metal contact, a previous owner as added a couple of thick rubber washers, they look like the thinner of the two that would normally be used to mount the larger touring tank, between the tank and the frame. There is just the large diameter washer and nut, below the frame mount. Does that sound correct, or not?
Secondly... how do you get the old rubber bushes out of the tank mounting tubes without damaging the aluminium tank?
Thanks,
John.
I'm from the Fens.... Gimme six.
