magneto versus point ignition
do all g 80 1964 Matchless 500 cc have magneto ignition or do some have point ignition?

I can't be specific about 1964 bikes, but my 1960 500 single had an alternator and coil ignition, so I doubt that they were all back to magneto by 1964.

Hi
Come at this from a different way - your engine number, (LH crank case at the barrel joint), will identify the year and model of the bike it was originally fitted to, from there you can reference the original documentation in the archive which will tell you how it was configured.
I think magneto ignition was limited to the CS model
