Hi Christian, I had problems with stripped threads on my tank. I made up 4 mild steel bushes, threaded 1/2 in BSC (because I had the die) on the outside, 5/16 BSC inside for the bolts. I had the tank straps drilled and tapped 1/2 in BSC using a Bridgeport mill to ensure they were at right angles and all parallel, and screwed the bushes in using strong thread retainer. They haven't shifted yet! You could, of course, make blind bushes to avoid piercing the tank again, but if you use the proper bolts this will not happen. To seal your tank, you could have the hole covered with a small plate silver soldered or even soft soldered on (Norton used soft soldered tanks for years with apparently no problems except when restorers had them stove enamelled at too high a temperature!), to reduce the heat required and thus damage to the tank paint.
