Ignition timing for 1965 AJS M18 Short stroke

Post by OEW591 »

I want to time the ignition on my 1965 500cc short stroke. All the literature I have concerning coil ignition models shows the contact breaker driven from the inlet cam, mine is driven from the exhaust cam and consequently all the instructions about aligning the bob-weight gap with the C/B plate securing screw holes is no longer valid - the screw holes are a mirror image of the diagrams. Also the C/B plate and C/B points assembly are completely different to those illustrated. Any advice on setting the points and part nos for C/B plate and C/B points would be much appreciated.

I have a '64 G80 and experienced similar problems to yourself. The post 64 singles are few and far between and its difficult to find help. I have now converted to 12V electrics and electronic ignition which I think is worthwhile even on a single. If your still having trouble I'll be pleased to help
