Chaincase gasket
Working on a 53 AJS 500 twin. Does this bike use a gasket between the inner and outer primary cover or just the rubber ring around the outside? Trying to get it to be somewhat oil tight...can't find a photo in the parts book or shop manual.

Hello Kevin, yes there is only a rubber seal between inner and outer covers. AMOC PARTS SERVICE sells an improved seal : 018652AD. From memory it is "beefier" than the orignal one, so you have to add a washer, or washers on the centre stud, and a longer bolt to fit the métal band around the seal. New métal bands are available from AMOC PARTS : 018650. There are a lot of topics on the forum regarding the leaky tin primary chaincases !
