Swinging arm alignment
I am restoring a 1953 M20 - the swinging arm appears to offset the rear wheel about 1/2" towards the left side of centre. There is no sign of bending on the tubes. Is this common or is the fork bent? Appreciate any advice - John Powell NZ

Swinging arm alignment
Hi John, Having eyed up my swinging arm, it does appear to be offset to the left, as the jampots are equidistant each side of centre, I wonder if the s/a pivot is offset, with it on the bike it is hard to see, but if yours is in bits perhaps you can see more easily. The wheel, of course, will be built to allow for this offset. Not a very good explanation, but it may bring an expert out of the woodwork with a better answer.

Swinging arm alignment
Thanks Alan for the input
I looked at several swing arms at a swap meet recently and they all seem to be offset slightly towards the left. I guess that's the way they were made. I'll stop worying about it.
