Can anyone tell me it there should be a washer under the two special nuts that adjust the steering head bearings? My hand books shows one but I can not find it on the parts list.

Hi John,

None of my AMC bikes have had a washer in this location. The workshop manual and spares list for the '56 G11 and the '54 G3 neither show or list a washer.[:(]

Hi John
If you are refitting these, don't forget to check the tightness regularly for the first few hundred miles. They can work loose with exciting consequences [8)]

Oh dear, John, I misread your query as a washer between the two nuts. My G11 Instruction book does indeed show a washer under the bottom nut, but no sign of it in the parts list. The G3 book shows no washer at all, so it seems to depend on the date of your G9, ie. '54 - no washer, '56 - washer.

My G9 is a 1960 model.
I don`t recall seeing a washer when I dismantled the bike but then again that seems like it was such a long time ago.
