Up to at least 1955 the frame number was below the saddle, 1957 it was nr. the headstock, just need to confirm 56.

My '56 Model 18 has the frame no. on the headstock - mystery solved?

Thanks Stu, so I have learned something, I always thought, the number went to the headstock area when the duplex frame was introduced. Which I believe is what the parts lists state. Seems the page was not updated for 56/57. They probably carried an erratta slip, it seems only erratta's that were stuck in survived to this day. I recently came across a 1929 AJS sales cat. that had a 2 page suppilment stuck on it. Up untill then, nobody I know was aware of the suppliment.

My 56 has the number on the rear down tube! And before you ask Mr Dating Officer, you already have a picture of it. :twisted:
