Model 30 fork springs

Post by John Grew »

Now that I have the AJ on the road , I am inclined to think that the previous owner might have had a chair on it ( I got it in a sack) as it is a very hard ride, Does anybody know the various lengths of solo and S/C springs

I'm not sure where I got these sizes but for 1 1/4" stanchions, solo: 11.9" x 5.14mm gauge. Sidecar : 12.75" x 5.7mm. Sorry about the mixed measures! Also the rear girlings would have the colour codes : solo: 8" long red/pink/red. Sidecar : 8.4" long Blue /yello/blue.

Just a thought John - have you got the correct grade of oil in the forks?

Hi Jim.
Thanks for the reply and the sizes I will investigate further when I have chance to.
Back in the days of noah when I worked on these things for a living it was all ways 30 grade in forks so that is what went in this time, but I get you point with all this modern stuff about I could try another.

Unless my memory fails me John's been a member for so long that his membership number must be a very early one.
