Oh no - I forgot to open my anti sumping tap!!
extend the handle of the tap so that it obstructs the travel of the kickstart when in the off position

I suppose if you look at the positive side...
you can be confident that you have a shut-off valve that is in perfect working order
I looked at these devices and then looked in the mirror
after a long .00005 millisecond of reflection
I decided a wet sump/oil-bathed lower end
and a forced oil drain and change
are probably not bad ideas anyway
after all how many times have I ridden off (for a short distance) with the fuel taps shut?
My "inner-idiot" should never be given a tool or device to use
The perilous journey to old age
has taught me to be acutely aware of my "inner-idiot" over the years
he is with me at all times, sometimes shouting instructions at me
sometimes lurking and sulking in some corner of my mind...whispering bad ideas at me
he will always jump in to help when I am not looking, am drunk or sick or tired
he loves to help!!!....
and he has nearly gotten me killed on several occasions,
cost me untold amounts of money and suffering of all varieties
Beware the Inner Idiot....we all have one

I've mentioned the device a Velo owner has devised before, simply the tap lever is positioned so a piece of reasonably firm plastic pipe can be positioned so as to interfere with the his leg/ankle when he attempts to kick start the bike should the tap be closed, dunno if this kinda thing could be adapted for an AMC, Kind regards

The oil cut off switch that came with my AJS model 31 incorporates an electrical cut off switch within it that is connected to the power cable to the points, if not opened the bike will not start.
Cheers Ray.

I fit Dove taps too ALL AMC twin rebuilds. They are 100% foolproof on coil ignition models in that the circuit has to be in connectivity for power to reach the points.
I will concede that on magneto models it wouldn't earth the mag in the event of a cable breakage or a connector working itself loose but if you install the tap correctly with good sound connections this is most unlikely.
Before I started to use Dove taps I tried taping warning signs to the twistgrip, but still succeeded in riding away with the tap off before realising my error, thankfully after a short distance.
I'd forgotten to tape the warning to the twistgrip/front brake lever when I'd last used the bike!
