Swingarm pivot bearing removal

Post by ManxmanGP »

I read article 3 about cycle parts in the technical article reference section and it is a very good article. I made the same mistake as many by attempting to drift out the cotter pin completely, and of course ran to this forum for help when the locating pin would only budge 1/8" or so back-forth. The design of the cotter pin is elegant and the practical thought and engineering expertise that went into the making of these bikes (for the most part) is of course one thing that makes them so attractive. I'd like to add that in the states we can purchase a (Chinese-made) hydraulic press very cheaply, which obviates the need for the anvil/drift method of removing the swingarm spindle, as described in the article. I've found the press to be of enormous use and wonder how I ever got along without it.
