Hi,
I,m a new member can anyone please date this g85cs its engine number is G85cs 150,should this have a scrambles gear box if so what range should the gear box number be in. Its a complete bike but have been informed by the seller the frame is a modified G80.
Its all in bits, what it worth? Who is the best for genuine parts.

I am afraid that it sounds a bit of a fake.

There were no Matchless G 85cs motors that had the number 150.

ave you a photo of the bike ??

No G85CS with number 150. So you must have a reason for stating that. Perhaps at what number the G85CS engine numbers started. Any idea what that number may had been?

Yes I know what the engine number started from and how many were made.....I copied the factory list around thirty years ago when Trevor Bailey was the club dating officer. So thats why I know that any engine with the number G 85cs 150 on it is a fake

The late Ian Gordon whom I first met in April 1962 had such an engine which "came from under the bench", he told me at the time that there weren't many of those engines available in those days. It was through Ian that I became an Associate Member with the number A2, A1 was local Velocette dealer and rider Arthur Lavington who died while racing on the Isle of Man.

It is strange that guests pose questions on our forum....then disappear.. I would have been intrigued to know why the person who posted this query had thought that it was a genuine bike...having stated in his first letter that it had the wrong frame..

Perhaps telling him it was a bit of a fake has stopped him purchasing it from the seller

Your probably right....I read the letter as he had bought it, , I can see now that it was not the case.......I thought that this might have been someone turning something into what it was not.....A lot of money involved if a few numbers are changed

Hello friends, I hope you are all well.
I have a grasstracker constructed by Jack Emmott with a Matchless G85cs engine in it.
The machine is a "barn find", I have discovered some of it's history.
The serial number is stamped as follows - G85CS/166 67 EMMOTT.
The suffix is Jack's surname, stamped by himself, I assume, the other characters are factory stamped.
I would be interested in your opinion if you have one.
