1930? AJS 350 Twinport

Post by 5 Points »

I have an AJS 350 Twinport with motor & Frame number R134xxx. however the Transmission is marked AJS No.2 and the number 2900 on the box and cover. Could someone tell me more about it? the carb is marked R12 AMAL. I have rebuilt the trasmission and it does not seem to match any of the styles / type listed in the manuels for 28, 29,or 30. i would like to know what I have to start with?

I may be able to tell you what most of the bike is. Its certainly seems a bit of a mixture.
probably most of it is 1930, could be a 500 side valve frame and engine, gearbox would have also had the same number as the frame and engine. Looks like you have 1930 250 OHV carb

It must be a R12 - 250cc twin port.

The gearbox is marked No. 2 and gives up the models. Only used for R5 and R12, and it does not look like the boxes used for the rest of the range in 1930. Same with the carb - would be stamped R5 for the RT5, so R12 it is.
